The art of my Great Grandfather, Frank, and his life became an inspiration. Frank Greener was a simple house painter who struggled to raise a family and painted art as a hobby. When Frank was older he lost his eyesight. Some years later in one of life’s miracle Frank regained his eyesight. Although he could no longer paint houses, he took up painting God’s landscapes. The new paintings became rich and full of a life’s spirit regained. Those family treasures of Frank’s art before and after the miracle of regained eyesight one day become a gift to me. In 1999 my own life was blessed with a spiritual awakening. At that time I met Dominique Rickard who became my teacher and with Dominique’s friendship, patience and guidance I am able to continue to develop God’s gift of art. I believe art is an opportunity for the artist to interpret the things he sees and add his spirit to the subject using color and tone. Art is not the about accurate reproductions. A good painting is built on the foundation of the artist’s ability to see the picture. I think that the greatest gift the world’s noted painters have is in taking the time to absorb the scene in its’ color, depth of tones and then eliminate the parts of the scene that detract and then enhance those parts of the scene that will become their painting. This is the artist’s obligation to his work, not to factually represent, but to put their spirit and bring their view to others. True art elevates the subject by adding the artist’s spirit and providing a way to share that feeling with others. I think my Great
Grandfather learned this better than most when the gift of sight
returned to him. Besides the influence of Frank Greener, I am proud
to be a student of Dominique Richard. I am admirer of Hongnian
Zhang's work. Of the masters; George Inness and William Trost
Richards are truly able to share their spiritual view with others.
Art should inspire you to see the beauty of your life. |
